EXPERIENCE
What I’ve Done
Like most astronomers, I did not stay in my home country. Thus far, I have always held ALMA-related positions. All of these required a combination of scientific research and technical duties. Most importantly, I like what I do!

By the way, here is a list of helpful astro links.
ASTRONOMER AT DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE
OPERATIONS, JOINT ALMA OBSERVATORY
January 2020Â - Today
It is great to be back at ALMA. As a DSO Astronomer at JAO, I am based in Santiago de Chile, but I occasionally go to ALMA's Operation Site Facility on shifts. These can either be regular or more specific ones, such as the VLBI observations with GMVA and EHT. Scientifically, I conduct my own research in collaboration with people at JAO, but also internationally. See my Scientific Interests below.
RESEARCH ASSISTANT, INSTITUTE OF ASTROPHYSICS AND SPACE SCIENCES
September 2019 - January 2020
I was involved as a post-doc in the project "IdEaS with ALMA" (supported by FCT PTDC/FIS-AST/29245/2017) with the aim to identify and characterise the youngest galaxies in the Universe with ALMA.
ALMA FELLOW, JOINT ALMA OBSERVATORY
September 2016 - August 2019
As an ALMA Fellow I was given the opportunity to keep pursuing my scientific interests, while improving my ALMA-related technical expertise. This comprises regular and VLBI observation executions, or ALMA data reduction, to name a few.
FCT FELLOW, INSTITUTE OF ASTROPHYSICS AND SPACE SCIENCES
January 2014Â - August 2016
During most of the period spent at IA, I was the Lead Scientist of the Portuguese ALMA Centre of Expertise (PACE). My main goals were to engage the Portuguese community into using ALMA for their research while improving my technical expertise relative to this facility. There, I worked mostly with José Manuel Afonso, as an FCT Fellow with the fellowship SFRH/BPD/97986/2013.
ALMA-CONICYT FELLOW, UNIVERSIDAD DE CONCEPCIÓN
September 2011 - August 2013
At UdeC I started my very first post-doc in Astronomy, and what a beginning! I had my first experience with working with ALMA data from the very first Cycle of observations. There, I mostly worked with Ricardo Demarco and Neil Nagar. Part of my duties were also to engage and help the UdeC researchers into ALMA science.

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE
Learning and Living
April 2007 - July 2011
"A multiwavelength study of near- and mid-infrared selected galaxies at high redshift: ERGs, AGN-identification and the contribution from dust" PhD thesis
PHYSICS DEGREE (A&A BRANCH), FCUL
September 2002Â - July 2006
Pre-Bologna Physics Degree in specialization in Astronomy and Astrophysics
HIGH-SCHOOL DIPLOMA, COLÉGIO MODERNO
September 1999Â - June 2002
My last three years in high-school I was in the Arts&Physics area. As you already noticed, I ended up going to Physics.
EXPERTISE

SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS
Galaxy and super-massive black-hole co-evolution; gas content and dynamics; galaxy growth mechanisms; IR-selected AGN; distant sub-millimeter/radio-selected galaxies; fundamental couplings variation.
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING
Nowadays, I use Python, but I still have C in the back of my head. I also did significant debugging in fortran and IDL, but I am not fluent on those.
LANGUAGES
I fluently speak Portuguese (mother tongue), English, and Spanish. I attended French and German courses, but without practice, those have now mostly vanished.
PRIZES
Work Recognitions by the society
CHILEAN SENATE MEDAL
Chilean Senate distinguished us for the first image of the shadow of a black hole. This was only the third time it was done, hence my three fingers ;)
